Old bearded men in red overalls \ud83d\ude09<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So, just in case you are looking for ideas for a Christmas themed retro to end the year with, here&#8217;s the bonus Christmas retro from my book &#8220;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"Plans for Retrospective (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/leanpub.com\/getting-started-with-plans-for-retrospectives\" target=\"_blank\">Plans for Retrospectives<\/a>&#8220;.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[Disclaimer: This plan is from a chapter on how to create custom activities and it is tailored to German holiday traditions. Adapt to your culture&#8217;s storylines as needed.]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"> A Christmas Retro<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>If you are physically in the same space, bring ginger bread, fir branches for the smell and flickering light to invoke the holiday spirit. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If it&#8217;s remote, set a cozy background image for the video call. I might go with a fireplace or a Christmas tree. If you&#8217;ve got a team that like&#8217;s to go all in, ask them to dress up \u2013 either truly festive or &#8220;Ugly Christmas Sweater&#8221; style.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When planning this retro I looked through all activities in &#8220;Set the stage&#8221; to make one christmassy. None seemed fitting. One search for \u201cChristmas retrospective\u201d later, I see <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"Santa faces (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/stevesitton.com\/2016\/12\/christmas-retrospective-many-faces-of-santa\/\" target=\"_blank\">Santa faces<\/a> and voila:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Emoticon Project Gauge (#32) goes Christmas<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p><em> 10 min | Andrew Ciccarelli<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Search and print images of Santa looking<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2022 shocked \/ surprised<br>\n\u2022 nervous \/ stressed<br>\n\u2022 unempowered \/ constrained \u2022 confused<br>\n\u2022 happy<br>\n\u2022 mad<br>\n\u2022 overwhelmed<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Let each team member choose which Santa reflects how they feel about the iteration. They can also give a short reason, if they want to.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Letter to Santa<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p><em>20 min | Corinna Baldauf<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hand out pens and paper. Give the team members 10 minutes to write a letter to Santa Claus making one big wish for the team. When everyone is done, go around the circle and read out the letters. Are there common themes? The following activity will work better if several participants make the same wish.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Wish granted (#50)<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p><em>15-20 minutes | Source: Lydia Grawunder &amp; Sebastian Nachtigall<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Give participants 2 minutes to silently ponder the following question: \u2018Santa grants your wish and it comes true overnight. You come to work the next morning. How can you tell that Santa granted your wish? What is different now?\u2019 Let everyone describe their \u2018Wish granted\u2019-workplace. Participants with the same wish can imagine and describe together. (You need breakout rooms for this in a remote setting.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The more details people describe the more tangible and desirable this future becomes. Keep asking people what they will see, hear, smell, how they&#8217;ll behave, \u2026 It will lead to better action items.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Be the elf you wish to see in the world<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p><em>15-20 min | Corinna Baldauf<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Alas, we all know that Santa Claus isn\u2019t real. Invite the team to be their own Christmas elves. What can they do to turn their wishful future into reality. How can they get one step closer? If there are many suggestions, dotvote which action items the team is going to implement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Emoticon Project Gauge (#32) goes Christmas \u2013 again<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p><em>5 min | Andrew Ciccarelli<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Reuse the Santa faces from the beginning. This time ask which Santa reflects how they feel about the retrospective.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you can, spend some more time in each other&#8217;s company.
