Why I created the Miro Templates<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

For the longest time, we had a Miro board with templates for 20ish activities at work, even though I use significantly more than 20 different activities. So I would always custom build low-effort boards. Putting in more time didn’t make sense, since they were single use and there was always a ton of other things to do. I never build something pretty enough to add to the template board, so the situation never improved.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Entering 2023, I didn’t want that hassle anymore. I wanted to just pick activities in Retromat and have a pretty template ready to copy-paste for each of these activities. Clickity-click and be done \u2013 that was the dream!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So I started building a giant mega template of a board with ALL 144<\/s> 146 activities in Retromat. (In the end 16 activities did not translate to a digital whiteboard, so technically 128<\/s> 130 activities, but who’s counting …) It’s perfect for preparing hybrid and remote retrospectives!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At only 40 activities in, the templates already started making a difference in both my time prepping for retrospectives and in how happy I was with the resulting boards. You see, I made these templates significantly prettier than my single-use boards before. And I do like pretty, well thought out things <3<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It had dawned on me that this might be a nice product. And the thought that other people might be using the templates, too, made me put a lot more effort in than I would have for just myself and my co-workers.

If you, too, would like to quickly create boards, you can buy and download the Retromat Miroboard Mega Template as an .rtb-file. That’s Miro’s internal backup file type. You can import the file with “Upload from backup” if you are on a paid plan. Free plans cannot import<\/strong> backup files.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There are two different licenses, one for a small group of facilitators and one for bigger organizations. The template board you get is the same, only the license is different.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What’s the exact license?<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

These are lifetime licenses, not a subscription.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I am not a lawyer and I do not like legalese. I’ve tried to convey the intended use of each license:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Small License \u2013 1-3 people creating boards<\/strong>\n\nIntended use: Fast and easy creation of boards for retrospectives and other workshops. Obviously, once you share your new board with clients or team mates, they will then have the templates of the activities that you selected, too. That's fine as long as it's a reasonable amount per board. (What's \"reasonable\" you ask? Like up to 10 for a 2h retrospective and up to 30 for a 2-day-workshop? About that. It's not about exact numbers, it's about \"sharing a board for a specific meeting\" (intended use) vs. \"sharing activities for later creation of other boards\" (not okay).)\n\nI ask you not to share these templates for the sake of sharing them (i. e. outside of a prepared meeting) with more than your group of 3.
